Tiles is a semi-finished surfacing materials, the total installation system will determine the quality of the finished surface! Therefore some points to consider when designing with Tile:
  • All building materials expands & contracts with thermal & moisture changes in the environment; always provide Tile Gap / grout line, Expansion Joints!
  • A single piece of tile does not totally portray a particular product range, always view several pieces of tiles at a standing distance of 1 meter in ambient lighting.
  • It is inherent in all Ceramic tiles to exhibit variation in shade & sub-size! Always check carefully for size & shade prior to installation.
  • Floor tile may be installed on the wall, but Wall tile must NEVER be installed on the Floor.
  • It is a common conception that the floor tile lines have to meet wall tile lines
  • Considerations when trying to achieve this goal:
    • Walls are not always perfectly aligned with floors
    • Floor grout lines is normally larger than wall grout
    • Desired wall tiles may not have same width as desired floor tiles (it limits choice)
    • Wide span of floor are designed with expansion joints
  • It’s possible to work around this issue

Floor tile sizes different
from wall tile sizes

Floor tiles laid in diagonal
direction vs. wall tiles

Apply different laying/size formats

Using borders / skirtings
